Raheema,
Studying Human Services and Social Justice
When are you at your happiest?
When I’m with my family, they just make me really happy.
What’s something that you are passionate about?
Probably helping people, that’s probably why I chose human services and justice.
I’m in my fourth year, right now I am doing a major of criminology, so next semester I’ll be doing a placement for my human services. That will be interesting, I’m just waiting for it.
When did it occur to you that you wanted to study in human services and social justice?
I initially wanted to do psychology but didn’t want to do the 8 years. My friend told me about human services, and I just became interested in it. Knowing about human rights, the united nations, that really interested me.
What’s a significant achievement of yours?
Probably the Craig Emerson award I won at school. I was a C+ student and then in year 12 I started to become better, and feel like it should work, and then I became an A student.
What do you hope to achieve in 2016?
Finishing uni definitely, and then probably finding a job.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
Probably the type of music I listen to. I listen to post-hardcore. When they find out I listen to it, they’re like whoah you listen to screaming and all that. But yeah, they don’t know I listen to that.
What’s your best advice to give to other people?
Stand up for what’s right, I think that’s the best thing to do. Against Bullying for example.
What role do your beliefs play in your life?
Islam shapes my life, it’s a way of life. Everything you do, it always impacts you.
